Antony Worrall Thompson hails successful audition for Supermarket Sweep

Antony Worrall Thompson has responded to critics of his shoplifting caution by insisting that he was merely auditioning for discontinued television show Supermarket Sweep.

Worral-Thompson said that his experience on Ready Steady Cook had left him well-prepared him for food challenges within a limited amount of time, and that he was looking forward to being on the show that isn’t on television any more.

He told reporters, “Look, I had to do repeatedly to ensure I had the optimum route through the supermarket itself.  You want to give yourself the maximum amount of time in the high-value wine area, you see.”

Critics have said there is nothing in the show’s rules about putting cheese inside your pockets and using your jacket to conceal bottles of wine, a criticism Worrall-Thompson thoroughly refutes.

“That’s rubbish, you have one minute to get as much stuff as you can, and trollies can be quite cumbersome. I do much better running round filling my pockets, and I think my caution proves that.”

Worrall-Thompson went on to explain why he was caught shoplifting on multiple occasions over the Christmas period.

He told reporters, “We reviewed the footage from the first couple of incidents, performed some tactical analysis, looked for the lessons to be learned, and then I went back to try and improve my score. What’s so wrong with that?”

“If doing your best to catch the eye of a television producer is a crime, then lock me up and throw away the key.”

“Otherwise pass my number onto the people who make any more of those celebrity reality things, please.”
