ITV is bracing itself for a barage of complaints after an ‘I’m a Celebrity’ bush tucker trial, featuring Shaun Ryder and Gillian McKeith eating Iceland party food in exchange for reward tokens, was described by onlookers as “harrowing”.

The episode, which will be screened tonight, will show Ryder and McKeith struggling to eat their way through a menu consisting of culinary horrors such as Iceland mini hot dogs, Iceland onion bhaji dippers and Iceland mini cheese and ham toasties.

“It was really difficult to watch,” revealed one crew member who asked to remain nameless.

“Ant wretched when Shaun bit into the onion bhaji, and both he and Dec looked visibly shaken when the trial was over.”

“To be honest, I don’t think the trial will ever be over for Gillian.”

“We all like to be entertained by celebrities suffering a bit, but this one went just a bit too far.  Someone could have been seriously hurt.”

McKeith, who has preached the mantra ‘You are what you eat,’ after she ate a broken pram on a drunken night out as a teenager, had to be revived with a defibrillator following the challenge.

Former Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder struggled to complete his plate of bargain party food, stopping after the first two items and insisting he couldn’t go on.

He was only able to continue after he was allowed to get rid of the taste of an Iceland breaded cheese & chive bite by rinsing his mouth out with a glass crocodile piss and chewing for a moment on a kangaroo testicle.
