Ricky Martin has put an end to years of speculation by confirming in an internet posting that he is proud to have recorded and performed hits such as ‘Livin La Vida Loca’, and ‘Shake Your Bon-Bon’.
It had long been assumed within the music industry that Martin hid behind a veil of secrecy surrounding his true feelings of revulsion towards the material he had foisted upon the world.
However, his recent admission has left many admitting they had long suspected he actually really liked the songs he was singing, but that as long as he is comfortable with that in himself, then it’s nobody else’s business.
Sheila Jacob, 35, a long-time fan of Ricky Martin claims to have known all along that he was secretly very proud of his discography.
“You can’t fake your true feeling when you’re on stage, and it was so obvious to everyone in the crowd that he really, really liked dancing to He Bangs…sorry, She Bangs.”
“I doesn’t make me love him any less. In fact, knowing he is someone I could never be with – a grown man who enjoys Latin pop music – means I probably love him even more.”
Secrecy
Keeping Martin’s true feelings secret from the music industry has been a difficult task for over 20 years for his management team and advisers.
One of his inner circle told reporters, “The secrecy was a way of maintaining his credibility as an act. If he’d come out and said he actually loved ‘Livin La Vida Loca’ it could have destroyed his career as a serious artist overnight.”
“It was much better to let people think he had a degree of disdain towards his own songs and that he was only doing it for the money.”
“But Ricky has now reached a point in his life where he is happy to let the world know who he really is. A man who truly and deeply loves Latin pop music.”
