Newly-promoted Huddersfield Town have made a strong start to their first top-flight campaign since 1972, storming to eighth place in the Premier League.

The Terriers, the bookies’ favourites for relegation since winning the play-off final yesterday, are already challenging for a Europa League place, well ahead of title hopefuls Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Fan Simon Williams said, “We’re over the moon”.

Newcomers Brighton & Hove Albion are also enjoying a blistering start to the season lying in a Champions’ League spot, with fellow minnows Burnley also in line to compete in UEFA’s flagship tournament.

Champions Chelsea can currently only mange fifth place though, a position that sees Antonio Conte’s job hanging by a thread, with ruthless owner Roman Abramovich rumoured to be already searching for his replacement.

AFC Bournemouth lead the 2017/18 table, but in controversial fashion, with many Arsenal fans claiming that their side should be top, as Bournemouth begins with a ‘B’.

Huddersfield will play their first match when the season begins on 12th August.
