Jeremy Corbyn calls Keith Vaz for advice on new washing machine

Jeremy Corbyn calls Keith Vaz for washing machine advice

Labour MP Keith Vaz has endured a difficult conversation with leader Jeremy Corbyn who was keen to get advice on a replacement washing machine.

Corbyn, who is looking to replace the ageing Miele machine at his north London home, called Vaz shortly before lunch.

The conversation was strained, though Vaz later admitted to friends that he was surprised not to have been asked about anything other than efficiency ratings and spin cycles.

As Corbyn explained to reporters, “Honestly, I had no idea Keith sold washing machines on the side, so why would I trust a salesman I don’t know in some flash showroom when I’ve got someone in my own party who is an expert?

“He didn’t make the hard sell, which I appreciated. He’s very subtle, and if you didn’t know better, you’d guess he didn’t know the first thing about drum volumes and water efficiency – though that’s Keith for you, very modest.

“He didn’t even want the commission and told me to look on Google for the best deal – selfless to a fault that man.”

Voter Simon Williams said he wasn’t the least bit surprised to hear about yet another MP with a second job.

He told us, “I don’t know how lucrative washing machine sales is, but I bet he hasn’t declared a bloody penny of the money he made!”
