Farage rhymes with ‘twat’

Nigel Farage pronunciation sounds like twat

The pronunciation of Nigel Farage’s surname has been clarified as sounding exactly like the word ‘twat’.

The issue came to bear during Prime Ministers Questions when David Cameron suggested Farage’s surname rhymed with ‘Goose Step’.

However, linguistics expert Simon Williams has explained the correct pronunciation for those who have been getting it wrong for years.

He explained, “It’s a classic mistake, where people take the ‘Far’ part of the name and equate it to the word ‘far’, when in reality it’s pronounced ‘Tw’.

“Then you’ve got the ‘age’ at the end of the word, which is easy to mistake for something like ‘idge’, when in this case it’s another ‘t’ sound – but quite a hard one, almost like it’s a double ‘t’.

“Just imagine yourself saying ‘Nigel Twat’, and you’ll have it down in no time.

“A little trick I learned is to start writing the name as it’s pronounced, at least until it becomes second nature.

“Writing ‘twat’, instead of Farage, should avoid any unfortunate misunderstandings.”
