Gary Neville finally admits he is still taking part in Movember 2008

Former Manchester United full-back Gary Neville has today admitted that he is now thirty-six and a half months into his fundraising efforts for Movember 2008.

Neville insisted that although his moustache was nearing maturity, it might be Movember 2013 before we get to see his hirsute lip in all it’s true glory.

He told reporters, “Like the old saying goes, don’t judge a moustache until it’s been growing for over five years.  Yes, of course that’s a real saying. My mum told me.”

“I’ve been a big supporter of Movember since I first heard about it back in 2004, and I haven’t shaved my top lip since then – though I wasn’t an official participant until 2008.”

“Sure, I get some funny looks for 11 months of the year, but I just explain I’m getting an early start on Movember and they seen to accept that – once all the laughing stops.”

Gary Neville doing Movember

Supporters of the Movember movement have welcomed Neville’s commitment to the cause, insisting that he is on target to be 2008’s biggest fund-raiser by 2015.

Movember Organise Shane Williams told us, “For most people, one month of sporting a ridiculous bit of hair on their top lip is more than enough, even for a good cause like ours.”

“But Mr Neville has been sporting his effort for years now, and if you didn’t know better you’d say he seems completely unaware of how utterly ridiculous he looks.”

“He has embraced the spirit of Movember more than any other participant in our history.”

“He has proven once and for all that just because you definitely can’t grow a proper moustache, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t keep trying to grow a proper moustache.”
