A Church of England Bishop has been suspended after going against everything the church stands for by making a statement that actually makes sense.
The Bishop of Willesden, the Right Reverend Peter Broadbent, described the union between Prince William and Kate Middleton as “nauseating tosh” and “national flim-flam”
The Bishop of London, the Right Reverend Richard Chartres said he had been “appalled” by the comments.
“It is not the role of the church to be in-tune with the opinions of people, but to harp on about some omnipresent super-being who lives in the clouds and who will strike you with his mighty smiting stick of wrath if you do anything that might be perceived as enjoyable.”
“Bishop Peter has offered his unreserved apology. Nevertheless, In light of the vast number of people actually agreeing with him I have asked him to withdraw from public ministry until further notice.”
In a statement Bishop Broadbent said, “I’m really really sorry and full of remorse, honestly. Look at my face. Does look like the face of someone who genuinely believes that the royal family is corrupt and sexist?”
Graham Smith, of anti-monarchy campaign group Republic, said “I totally share Bishop Broadbent’s concerns about the celebrity culture that surrounds the Royal Family.”
“He has every right to express these concerns, even using strong langu…….what’s that? We get a day off? Really?”
“Ahem ‘God save our gracious Queen, God save our…….”
