Anti-virus call centre scammers barely spoke English, moan victims


Call centres set up by criminal gangs to carry out cold calls offering virus protection which steals personal information, have been criticised for using scammers that can not even speak English properly.

Gangs have set up the call centres in eastern Europe or Asia, and are employing up to 400 people who cold call UK phone numbers looking for morons who don’t know how to use a computer.

One victim has hit out at the scam, and revealed that when he asked to speak with a superviser he was put on hold for 37 minutes.

“I couldn’t understand a word of what the guy was saying, which the absolutely minimum I expect when I’m being scammed.” revealed 32 year old Graham Macpherson.

“Outsourcing rip-offs to a call centre in Mumbai may be cost effective for criminal gangs, but it certainly doesn’t do much for the victim experience.”

Macpherson continued, “I’m not a racist or anything, but it’s really frustrating when you’re giving all of your personal security details to someone at a call centre and you can’t understand them and they can’t understand you.”

“It’s strange because they always have English names.”

“It took over an hour to finally give them my personal details, allowing them to empty my bank account, and max out all my credit cards.”

A spokesperson for the criminal gangs has apologised to Mr Macpherson, but insisted that it is in an isolated incident and assured people that the majority of people they contact are ripped off in a matter of minutes.

“We’re really sorry that Mr Macpherson experienced such difficulty in getting conned.”

“As a goodwill gesture we would like to offer Mr Macpherson a guaranteed prize if he calls 09856325142.”
