Obama would sack BP boss – what do you think?

US President Barack Obama has announced that if Tony Hayward were a US government employee he would sack the BP Chief Executive over the massive oil spill caused by his company in the Gulf of Mexico.

Is the US president right to express such a view, or is Tony Hayward the unfortunate fall guy for an accident beyond his control?

We sent our reporters out onto the streets to find out what you thought.

Woman on the Street “I can totally empathise with Obama, if I had that much power there would be THOUSANDS of people I’d like to fire, starting with that snidey bitch Jane Simmons on till 5.”

Sally Field, Supervisor

Man on the Street “I fire people all the time, and let me tell you it’s not all it’s cracked up to be.  Once the adrenalin dissipates and my erection subsides, all that’s left is a massive gaping void where my soul should be.”

Terry Waite, HR Manager

Man on the Street “I’m not sure that Obama has any legal right to have him fired, so why doesn’t he just invoke his presidential executive privilege and arrange to have him killed?

Dave Skipton, Employment Lawyer

Man on the Street “I think Obama is being really unfair. Tony has done absolutely everything within his power to stop shareholders ditching their stock like a Gary Glitter back catalogue.  I’m not sure what else you could expect him to do?

Shane Meadows, Shell shareholder
